We are Flying Our Rebel!!

A great ski flying day in Alaska!!  This was my first time landing on frozen Lake George and it was a little rough but lots of fun.  At the end of the day I climbed to 6000' and flew over the top down into Eklutna Lake valley and flew home from there.

Welcome to our Alaskan Rebel web site.  The purpose of this site is to document the construction of our Murphy Rebel!  My wife Debrya and I enjoy building things together.  Since we built our home and shop, I guess it just followed that we'd want to build our airplane as well!  We started construction on October 21, 2007.  We're hoping to be flying our plane within eighteen months.

The Rebel is one of several kits offered by Murphy Aircraft Manufacturing , located in British Columbia.  Check out the "Links" page for a look at their site.  The kit comes with everything from the firewall back.  This means we'll need to supply the engine, cowling, avionics, upholstry, and some other minor items.  The Rebel should be a great performer here in Alaska and is certified for several engines.  A large engine will be our choice partly because we may end up putting our plane on floats and will need all the horsepower we can get for great performance.    Did you know that the co-designer of the Rebel, the late Dick Hiscocks, was also the co-designer of the de Haviland Beaver?  If you compare the two planes they share many similarities.  Check out the "Specifications" page for all the important information on physical dimensions and performance.

Luckily, we have a large uncluttered shop to build in.  Technically, we'll be building it in half of the shop because Deb has a large truck that spends the winter inside.  This will work well until we start fitting the wings!  For a look at our construction area and other things, check out the "Getting Started" page.

As you look through our site, drop us a line if you have questions or comments.  We'd love to hear from you.  Also, please keep in mind that Murphy Aircraft is the ultimate authority on building the Rebel.  This is simply documentation of our experience.
