157 viewsSi was up for the May airshows and we hung out in my shop for a few days woring on various things. If he lived here in Alaska, I'd be in the air in 2-3 months easy.

155 viewsThis is the rear of the bottm colw where the coling air will exit. I don't think it's a big enough opening. To create a proper pressure differential, the lower opening should be bigger than the upper ones. The upper ones are really opened up so I'm going to open this area up proportionately.

10 viewsI guess if I can find a positive in the gear legs bending it is this. I've been wanting to set up a beam for lifting the plane (or whatever) and although I just used a pulley to lift one side at a time when installing the skiis, this repair operation required me to have the plane in the air leveled. Now when we build our floats, I'll have a way to do changeovers! Also, it is so great to be able to work on my pane without getting permission or having to pay someone else! Yes! Experimental!Apr 16, 2012

14 viewsOh oh! A friend helping me put the plane away noticed what looked like a slight bend in the main gear tubes near the axles. Once I removed the tubes it was obvious that it was significant. Not sure if it was the tall dolly's I borrowed to get the plane to the lake (with the plastic bottoms on the skiis extending 2" all around this put the moment arm on the gear out about 6" past the end of the axle) or a hard ski landing on hard pack. Anyhow, this has to be fixed before I fly again.Apr 16, 2012

10 viewsI have the new gear legs in place and have also set the axles up with 1.5 degrees of down angle to help make up for the bushwheels and next year's ski flying.Apr 16, 2012

12 viewsHere we are after the gear fix and a few gravel and pavement landings. The new legs seem to be working just right and all is well for now! Look out, though, because summer's approaching and this will be my first summer to do some serious exploring here in Alaska!Apr 16, 2012
